The H. Wereszycki and W. Felczak Award

A historical contest for the H. Wereszycki and W. Felczak Award was first organized in 2001 as an initiative of the Cracow-based section of the Polish Historical Society and from the very beginning the Faculty of History has been co-organizing it. The purpose of the contest is to remember the Patrons and honour their followers. The Jury awards the books written by Polish and foreign authors, devoted to the history of Central Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Having studied the books recommended for the Award, the Jury decides on the list of the winners and the authors nominated for the Award, which is always published in the mass media. The contest has attracted a group of researchers interested in Central Europe whereas among the guests there are outstanding academics, rectors of universities, artists and journalists. After 11 years the contest has become widely popular among authors and the award, which is sponsored by Wydawnictwo Literackie, is one of the most prestigious in Poland.
